Data protection

LulaBet privacy policy: what POPIA means for your account

Every piece of personal information tied to a LulaBet account is governed by South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act, from the ID document uploaded at registration to the cookies tracking a browsing session.

Legal basis

What POPIA requires when you register

The Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 rests on eight lawful-processing conditions: accountability, purpose specification, processing limitation, further processing limitation, information quality, openness, security safeguards and data subject participation. Applied to a betting account, this means an ID number and proof of address may only be collected for a stated purpose, such as FICA verification, and cannot later be repurposed for an unrelated use without fresh consent.

Collection and sharing

The data LulaBet collects and who else sees it

LulaBet's own privacy policy discloses that cookies and connected third-party services can collect or share account-related data beyond LulaBet's direct systems, which typically includes payment processors, identity-verification agencies and the regulator itself. Data collected for FICA purposes is generally retained for as long as the account remains active plus a further period required by financial record-keeping obligations, rather than being deleted immediately after verification.

Data categories at a glance

  • Identity documents: ID/passport, proof of address — retained per FICA record-keeping duration
  • Account activity: deposits, bets, withdrawals — retained for dispute and audit purposes
  • Device/browsing data: cookies, IP address — used for security and session functionality
  • Shared with: payment processors, identity-verification agencies, WCGRB where legally required

Your rights

Correcting, deleting or escalating a data concern

Under POPIA's data subject participation condition, an account holder can request access to the personal information LulaBet holds and ask for inaccurate entries to be corrected. If a request is not resolved satisfactorily through LulaBet's own support channel, the matter can be escalated to South Africa's Information Regulator, which operates independently of any single betting operator and has authority over POPIA complaints nationally.
